* We can only offer "courtesy posts" for any owner surrenders.*

It is always our hope that once someone has adopted a cat, they'll keep them in their home and provide care for them for the rest of the cat's lifetime. We do realize, however, that sometimes life can deal us circumstances that simply do not allow us to continue to care for a cat.

If you have a cat that you wish to rehome/surrender, please understand that we may not be able to physically accept your cat into our rescue because we don't have any available temp adopt/foster homes/petco spaces. We are always running on full capacity, so please be patient. Telling us that you will surrender your beloved kitty to a shelter - will not mysteriously open a spot in a temp adopt or foster home.

Things you need to know:

  • We are run entirely out of temp adopt/foster homes, so whether or not we can accept your cat depends upon the space available.

  • We cannot accept cats into our rescue that have not tested negative for FIV/FeLV. We require proof from the testing veterinarian.

  • The more information you are able to share with us regarding your cat's personality, needs and temperament, the better.

  • If we accept your cat into Catnip and Tails Rescue, you will sign an owner release document giving CAT full ownership of said cat.

  • Please plan ahead - we are volunteer-run, and this will almost never be a quick process and we generally have a waiting list of cats waiting to enter our program.

  • In lieu of the customary owner give-up fee, we do ask that owners bring cats that are accepted into our program up to date on all vaccines or needed medical procedures. Please wait until your cat has been accepted into the program, and we will inform you if there is anything we wish to have done before the physical transfer to CAT.
